Camas School District
As a resident of Camas for 35 years, I have watched the downtown area wane and recover robustly into the jewel it is today. My career has been in education; I currently serve the staff and students of the Camas School District as the Director of Secondary Education after being a teacher and building administrator for many years. My children successfully launched into adulthood after benefiting from the excellent education they received throughout their lives from amazing Camas teachers, many of whom I consider friends today.
I believe very strongly in giving back to a community that nurtures and celebrates each person, faction and family. I originally joined the DCA Board as a school district liaison, then stepped aside to allow others in our district the opportunity to learn from and engage in the magic of the DCA. I feel fortunate to have rejoined the team to help continue the work of the DCA’s commitment to creating places of shared prosperity, equal access to opportunity and inclusive engagement. After being elected to the Camas City Council in 2021, I have a deeper appreciation of the benefits DCA provides. I couldn’t be prouder about being a member of the DCA team.
How long have you served on the board?
I’m in my second season on the DCA Board, this time since 2017, initially as a board member and now as the liaison to City Council.
What do you love about Camas?
I love the close-knit downtown Camas community and that everything I need is available within a small radius. Shopping, eating and playing, all within a few minutes.
What do you enjoy about being a part of the Camas Community?
I enjoy developing relationships with merchants, police officers, city staff and officials and other devotees to the Camas Community. There are many people who serve selflessly to bring harmony and joy to our city through their kindness and commitment to our community. I also enjoy the events that unite us; there is something for everyone.
What is your favorite memory in Camas?
My favorite memories in Camas include the Camas Days Kids’ Parades. Our entire family embraced the themes with costumes and props. Now that my children are adults with children of their own, I have the opportunity to see the next generation of my family experience this type of community camaraderie and joy.
